Comments on 2017-01-14 I'm now using the right dictionary

Webster’s is, sadly, not an English dictionary but an American-English dictionary. As such it is a very poor replacement for the real thing (the OED, obviously).

Good point, though I call British English what you call English;-). Since I have a slight preference for American English, it’s not a problem for me. And btw, do you know about any similar resource for British English?

Hello. I don’t know if you are aware of the DICT Development Group at dict.org or the wonderful dictionary-el emacs package which provides an interface to it. It returns entries from the Collaborative International Dictionary of English, which is derived from Webster’s 1913 edition, together with a handful of other good sources. It is my dictionary of choice for the English language and I use it 90% of the time to look up familiar words. If you don’t know it yet, I strongly recommend you to give it a try.
