Another handy way to do this is with helm-swoop. While in a helm-swoop session, you can press C-c C-e to go into edit mode. There, you will see a list of matching lines with the current words highlighted, and you can edit them. Then you can press C-x C-s to apply the changes to the underlying buffer, or C-c C-g to cancel.

Well, I didn’t know that, but from what I heard about helm, I’m hardly surprised… Maybe I’ll try helm at some point, but after ido (which I didn’t like) and Icicles (which I wanted to like, but it was too slow and too complex for my needs) I’m now using Ivy, and I’m quite happy with it.
