By default, we have an empty header (that is, the space at the top of the page) and a page number centered in the footer (the bottom of the page). We can get rid of the page number by saying
\pagestyle{empty}
in the preamble. Other possibilities of page numbering, so-called running heads etc. obviously exist - we will get to them later.
