• 06:14 UTC (new) (history) 2024-07-13 Dedicated windows . . . . mbork – There are some features of Emacs which you can read about in the manual and go “huh? what is that about? who’d ever need it?”, and then later turn out to need exactly them. Recently I learned that dedicated windows are just like that.

• 15:07 UTC (new) (history) 2024-07-01 Starting Node.js with selected packages preloaded . . . . mbork – There are several Node.js packages I use fairly often, and often need to debug some code using them. As any Lisper will tell you, there are few better ways to debug/explore code than a REPL. Node.js comes with a decent enough REPL for simple experiments, but what if I want to play around with Lodash or Ramda, not just vanilla JS?

• 19:23 UTC (new) (history) 2024-06-24 PGmacs - editing PostgreSQL databases from Emacs . . . . mbork – As you probably know, I’m not only a fan of Emacs – I also like PostgreSQL very much. It is then no surprise that upon learning about PGmacs, a new tool by Eric Marsden to access PostgreSQL databases from within Emacs, I wanted to try it out.

• 06:12 UTC (new) (history) 2024-06-17 Selecting subtitles’ language with mpv and Emacs hacking . . . . mbork – As you know quite well if you’re following my blog, I watch Doctor Who regularly. These days, I mostly use mpv for video viewing (unless I watch streamed videos on a certain proprietary platform, which I don’t like, but it seems the only way to watch the newest season). My usual workflow is to buy dvds (which have a great advantage over streaming – I actually, physically own them), rip them to mp4​s and then spend some time watching, translating, screenshotting and doing whatever I want with them. One issue I have is that for most episodes, I have two versions of the srt file with subtitles – an English one and a Polish one, and I’d like to be able to select either of them easily.
