Marcin Borkowski – There was a discussion on the ConTeXt mailing list recently about counting visible characters in a PDF file. This is easily reduced (by the pdftotext utility) to the problem of counting visible characters in a text file. Just for fun, I decided to do this in Elisp. I knew this wouldn’t be really a challenge to code it, but it might be a bit challenging to make it optimal.

16:36 UTC (new) (history) 2015-02-07 Emms and transcripts . . . . Marcin Borkowski – A few days ago there was a question on the org-mode mailing list about using Org-mode as a transcript tool. While I do not do exactly this – what I needed was basically editing transcripts done by someone else, and they were rather simplistic, with no time information – I thought that sharing my (simple) config might be useful. Basically, what is needed is an integration of Emacs and a player, so that I can pause and unpause (is that a word?) the sound from Emacs. Also, seeking a few seconds back is useful so that if I didn’ (is that a word?)t understand something, I can easily go back to that place. Implement this, and that’s it.

19:22 UTC (new) (history) 2015-01-31 The Return of the King . . . . Marcin Borkowski – I watched fragments of Peter Jackson’s The Return of the King yesterday. I almost forgot how good that book is, and how bad that movie was. Still, there were a few scenes which were quite powerful.

The lecturer, Mateusz Pawlik, who graduated from my university, has recently earned his PhD at Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in Italy and is currently working at Salzburg.
