  • 00:30 UTC (new) (history) 2015-05-02 BachoTeX 2015 . . . . Marcin Borkowski On Wednesday I came back from Bachotek, where the annual Polish TeX Users’ Group conference is held. I wasn’t able to attend the whole conference, but I went for one day to listen to some talks and (first of all) meet friends. I also gave a short, informal talk about the project I’m involved in: a textbook on LaTeX aimed at university students. (There aren’t that many of those in Polish.)

Marcin Borkowski Most Emacs users know that Dired – while atypical – is a perfectly reasonable file manager, with quite a few completely unique features. It is lacking, however, in a few rather fundamental areas – at least with its default configuration. Let me share here a bunch of Dired tweaks.

  • 19:41 UTC (new) (history) 2015-04-11 Proofs and refutations . . . . Marcin Borkowski No, I will not write about the famous book by Lakatos. I will write about proofs, or rather “proofs”, since what we see in math journals are often not really proofs. This week I read two texts by two different people, which confirm what I’ve been thinking for some time already. I have to say that reading through papers in math journals can be pretty frustrating. And it’s not because I’m stupid and can’t understand the proofs (well, this, too, sometimes), but the main reason is that there are so many published papers with errors.
